How daily drawdown is calculated: equity, balance, day clock
Daily drawdown rules differ by prop firm: some count the day's loss from the opening balance, some from equity, and each resets on its own clock. Oathra prints each firm's base and reset time beside its rules, and says when the firm's page does not state one.
Check these first#
You can answer these from your firm's own page, with or without Oathra.
- Is the day's loss counted from the balance at the start of the day, or from equity?
- Do open positions count, or closed trades only?
- At what hour does the day reset, and in which time zone?
- Is the limit a share of the starting balance, or of the day's opening balance?
- Do commission and swap count toward the loss?
How Oathra shows which case applies#
Where Guardian's rules for a firm hold a day clock, it is printed with the rules: the reset time, its time zone, and what the daily loss is measured from. Where the firm's page does not state one, Oathra says so and says what it assumes.
The limit that applies#
The check counts a day by the clock of the rules you picked. If your firm resets at another hour, the daily loss can fall on a different day.
