Read the news calendar
Moved from the old guide.
The News Calendar lists the scheduled economic releases that move markets, past and upcoming, with a countdown to the next one and filters for what matters to your pairs.
News Calendar Overview#
What Is the News Calendar?#
The News Calendar is a real-time economic calendar showing upcoming and past news events that move financial markets. It covers all major scheduled releases like interest rate decisions, employment reports, inflation data, and GDP figures. You can see what is coming, what just happened, and how actual results compared to forecasts.
The data is sourced directly from MT5's built-in calendar API via Oathra's dedicated Calendar EA running on a VPS. This means the calendar stays updated 24/7 without you needing to keep a terminal open.
Where Does the Data Come From?#
Events are collected by a dedicated MT5 Expert Advisor that monitors the MT5 Calendar API around the clock. The EA runs on a VPS and pushes event data to the Oathra backend on a regular schedule.
Coverage spans 8 major currencies: USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, AUD, CAD, CHF, and NZD. Each event includes the actual value (once released), the forecast (consensus expectation), and the previous reading. This lets you compare outcomes against expectations at a glance.
The Calendar EA is separate from the sync EA that tracks your trades. You do not need the Calendar EA installed on your own terminal. It runs on a shared VPS and feeds data to all Oathra users.

Next Event Countdown#
At the top of the calendar you will find a large countdown timer showing the time remaining until the next high-impact event. The countdown displays the event name, a currency badge (e.g. USD, EUR), the scheduled date and time in UTC, and the previous and forecast values.
If you have open trades, the countdown also shows which of your pairs might be affected by the upcoming release. For example, if Non-Farm Payrolls is about to be released and you have open EURUSD and GBPUSD positions, both will be flagged since USD is involved.
Event Table#
Events are grouped by day, with each day showing a list of scheduled releases in chronological order. The table columns are:
- Time in HH:MM UTC format
- Currency badge with the currency code
- Impact shown as colored dots (see below)
- Event name describing the release
- Actual value once released
- Forecast consensus expectation
- Previous last reading
When an event's actual value is released, it gets color coded. If the actual beats the forecast, it appears in green. If it misses, it appears in red. This makes it easy to scan for surprises that may be moving the market right now.
Impact Levels#
Every event is assigned one of three impact levels based on its historical ability to move markets:
High Impact
Major market movers. Non-Farm Payrolls, CPI, interest rate decisions, GDP. These can cause sharp spikes and wide spreads.
Medium Impact
Moderate movers. PMI readings, retail sales, trade balance. Can cause noticeable moves, especially if the result is a big surprise.
Low Impact
Minor economic data. Rarely moves markets on its own but can contribute to broader sentiment shifts.
Tracked Currencies#
The calendar tracks events for 8 major currencies, each displayed with a unique color-coded badge throughout the interface:
Economic Sectors#
Events are categorized into 12 economic sectors. You can use these to filter for specific types of data or to understand what part of the economy a release covers:
None, Market, GDP, Jobs, Prices, Money, Trade, Government, Business, Consumer, Housing, Taxes.
Market holidays are also tracked as a separate category, letting you know when liquidity may be lower than usual.
Calendar Filters#
The calendar can show hundreds of events per week. Filters let you narrow it down to what actually matters for your trading.
Filter by Impact#
Checkbox filter with three options: High, Medium, and Low. By default, High and Medium are checked so you see the events most likely to move your pairs. Uncheck Medium if you only want to see the big releases. Check Low if you want a complete picture of all scheduled data.
Filter by Currency#
Filter events by specific currency. Options include each of the 8 tracked currencies individually, "All" to see everything, or "My Pairs" which automatically shows only the currencies relevant to your open trades.
If you only trade EUR and GBP pairs, selecting those two currencies removes the noise from USD, JPY, and other releases that do not directly affect your positions.
Filter by Sector#
A dropdown to filter by economic sector. Useful when you want to focus on a specific type of data. For example, select "Jobs" to see only employment-related releases, or "Prices" to track inflation data across all currencies.
Market Holidays#
A toggle to show or hide market holidays. When enabled, holidays appear in the event table with a special indicator. Knowing when a major market is closed helps you anticipate lower liquidity and wider spreads on those days.
My Pairs Filter#
The "My Pairs" filter is one of the most useful features. It works by looking at your currently open positions and extracting the base and quote currencies from each pair.
For example, if you have open positions on EURUSD and GBPJPY, the filter will show events for EUR, USD, GBP, and JPY. If you close the GBPJPY trade, GBP and JPY events will be removed (unless another open pair uses those currencies).
My Pairs follows the trades you have open. It is the fastest way to see only the news that could affect your current exposure.
